Overview

Phone numbers are how your AI agents receive and make calls. Each number can be assigned to a specific agent, and you can manage all of your numbers from the Phone Numbers page in the dashboard.

Numbers are included in your subscription plan. The number of phone numbers you can have depends on your plan tier.

Getting a New Number

Click Buy Phone Number in the top-right corner of the Phone Numbers page. This opens a search where you can find available numbers.

Number Types

You can search for three types of phone numbers:

  • Mobile — Best for SMS. This is the default.

  • Local — Area-specific numbers tied to a geographic region.

  • Toll-Free — 800-series numbers (800, 888, 877, etc.).

Available Countries

  • United States (+1)

  • Canada (+1)

  • Germany (+49)

Narrowing Your Search

You can search by:

  • Area Code — e.g., enter "415" for San Francisco numbers

  • Starts with — find numbers beginning with specific digits

  • Contains — find numbers containing specific digits anywhere

  • Ends with — find numbers ending with specific digits

Purchasing

Click Get next to the number you want. It's activated immediately. If you've reached your plan's limit, you'll see an upgrade prompt instead.

Phone numbers are included in your subscription plan. The number of phone numbers available depends on your plan tier.

Assigning a Number to an Agent

Each phone number can be assigned to one AI agent. When someone calls that number, the assigned agent answers.

  1. Find the number on the Phone Numbers page.

  2. Under Assigned Agent, pick an agent from the dropdown.

  3. The change takes effect immediately.

You can switch agents at any time. A number without an assigned agent won't be able to handle incoming calls.

Call Forwarding

Already have a phone number? You can forward calls you miss to your SkipCalls AI agent instead.

Click the Integrate button on any number card to open the setup wizard.

How It Works

  1. Pick your phone carrier — Choose from a list of US and Canadian carriers.

  2. Choose when to forward — Options include:

    • When you don't answer (recommended) — the AI picks up only if you don't.

    • When your line is busy

    • All calls — every call goes straight to the AI.

    • When your phone is off

  3. Dial a code — The wizard gives you a code to dial from your phone (like *71XXXXXXXXXX). A cancel code is also provided.

  4. Test it (optional) — SkipCalls calls your phone. If you let it ring and the AI picks up, you're all set.

For internet-based phone services (like Google Voice or Vonage), the wizard shows step-by-step instructions for their settings instead.

Activating and Deactivating

Each number shows as Active (green dot) or Inactive (gray dot).

  • Active — Can receive and make calls.

  • Inactive — Won't handle calls, but the number stays reserved for you and still counts toward your plan's limit.

Toggle the status with the Activate or Deactivate button on the number card.

Removing a Number

Open the three-dot menu on the number card and select Remove Number.

When you remove a number:

  • It's unassigned from any agent and deactivated.

  • It's not deleted immediately. There's a 3-day grace period where you can get it back by purchasing it again.

  • After 3 days, the number may no longer be available.

Removing a number frees up a slot on your plan.

Porting Your Existing Number

Want to transfer an existing phone number to SkipCalls? Click Port Your Number on the Phone Numbers page.

  1. Enter the phone number you want to transfer.

  2. Review the requirements:

    • You must own the number.

    • You need access to your current carrier account.

    • It typically takes 1-2 weeks.

    • Once started, it can't be cancelled.

  3. Click Contact Support to Start Porting — our team will guide you through the rest.

Your number stays active with your current provider during the transfer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a phone number cost?

Phone numbers are included in your subscription plan at no extra cost, up to your plan's limit. The number of phone numbers available depends on your plan tier.

Do inactive numbers still count toward my limit?

Yes. Deactivating a number stops it from handling calls, but it stays reserved for your account. To free up a slot, you need to remove the number.

Can I get my number back after removing it?

If you purchase the same number again within 3 days, it'll be reassigned to you instantly. After that, it may no longer be available.

Can I use my number for both incoming and outgoing calls?

Yes. All SkipCalls numbers support both incoming and outgoing calls.
