Voice Language Setting - English Only vs. Multilingual

Written by Nikita Podelenko

What Is the Voice Language Setting?

The Voice Language setting controls how your AI receptionist listens to callers. It has two modes:

  • English Only - best recognition when callers speak English.

  • Multilingual - use when callers may speak more than one language.

English Only is the default for new receptionists because focusing on one language usually gives the most accurate speech recognition.

Where to Find It

Mobile App

  1. Open Receptionist Settings.

  2. Open Advanced Settings.

  3. Go to Language.

  4. Turn Multilingual on or off.

Turn Multilingual off for English Only.

Web Dashboard

  1. Go to app.skipcalls.com.

  2. Open your Receptionist.

  3. Open the Settings tab.

  4. Find Caller Language.

  5. Choose English Only or Multilingual.

If You Do Not See the Option

Some voices handle language automatically and do not show this setting. Other voices support switching to English Only, which can improve recognition if your callers usually speak English.

If you want English Only but do not see the option, choose another voice and check the Language setting again.

Which Mode Should I Choose?

English Only

Choose English Only if most callers speak English. This can improve recognition quality, especially when callers speak quickly, have accents, are older, or call from noisy places.

Choose English Only if:

  • Your business mostly answers English-speaking callers.

  • Your receptionist misunderstands English callers.

  • Callers have accents but still speak English.

  • You want the best recognition for English calls.

Multilingual

Choose Multilingual if callers may speak different languages and you want the receptionist to detect and respond in the caller's language.

Supported languages include English, Spanish, French, German, Hindi, Russian, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, and Dutch.

Choose Multilingual if:

  • You serve a bilingual or multilingual community.

  • Callers frequently speak Spanish, French, or another supported language.

  • Supporting more languages is more important than maximum English accuracy.

Troubleshooting

My receptionist misunderstands English callers

If your callers mostly speak English, switch to English Only. This tells the system to focus on English and can improve recognition quality.

My receptionist responds in the wrong language

This can happen in Multilingual mode if the caller's first few words are unclear. If most callers speak English, switch to English Only.

Callers speak Spanish, but my receptionist only replies in English

Switch to Multilingual so the receptionist can detect and respond in Spanish and other supported languages.
