Google Voice is a popular VoIP service that many businesses use for their phone system. You can connect Google Voice to SkipCalls so your AI receptionist answers calls when you're unavailable.
Before You Start
You need an active Google Voice account
You need your SkipCalls phone number (find it in Settings or on your Dashboard)
Important: Use the Google Voice mobile app for setup, not the desktop website. Verification works much more reliably on the phone app.
Step-by-Step Setup
Step 1: Open Google Voice on Your Phone
Download the Google Voice app if you haven't already:
Sign in with your Google account that has Google Voice.
Step 2: Add SkipCalls as a Linked Number
Tap the three-line menu (hamburger icon) in the top left
Go to Settings
Tap Linked numbers
Tap + New linked number
Enter your SkipCalls phone number
Step 3: Verify by Phone Call (Critical!)
This step is very important: When prompted to verify, choose "Verify by phone call" instead of "Verify by SMS".
Google will call your SkipCalls number and speak a verification code. Your AI receptionist will answer and transcribe the code for you.
Wait for the verification call to complete
Go to your SkipCalls call history
Find the call from Google and check the transcription
Copy the verification code from the transcription
Enter the code in Google Voice to complete verification
Step 4: Enable Call Forwarding
Once verification is complete:
Go back to Settings > Linked numbers
Find your SkipCalls number in the list
Make sure it's enabled for receiving calls
Optionally, configure when calls should forward (all calls, when busy, etc.)
Step 5: Complete Your Setup
You're almost done! There's one quick setting to adjust in Google Voice to ensure calls flow smoothly to your AI receptionist.
By default, Google Voice asks callers to announce themselves before connecting. We need to turn this off so your AI can answer directly.
Next step: Configure Google Voice Call Settings (takes 2-3 minutes)
This is a simple one-time setup that ensures your AI answers every call properly.
Troubleshooting
Verification Keeps Failing on Desktop
Solution: Switch to the Google Voice mobile app. Many users report that verification works on the phone app when it fails on desktop. This is the most common fix.
Not Receiving the Verification Call
Make sure you selected "Verify by phone" not "Verify by SMS"
Check that your SkipCalls number is correct (include country code)
Wait a few minutes and try again
Can't Find the Verification Code
Check your SkipCalls call history for a recent call from an unknown number
The code will be in the call transcription
If there's no transcription, try the verification again
Google Says Number is Already Linked
If you previously tried to link this number, you may need to remove it first and start fresh. Go to Linked numbers, find the number, and remove it before trying again.
