Spam Protection

SkipCalls includes built-in spam protection to help you avoid unwanted robocalls and telemarketers. This feature works directly with your phone's native call screening.

How Spam Protection Works

SkipCalls maintains a database of known spam numbers. When enabled, the app identifies incoming calls from these numbers and handles them according to your preferences.

The spam database is updated regularly with new numbers identified as spam, so protection improves over time.

Setting Up Spam Protection

  1. Go to Settings tab

  2. Tap Integrations

  3. Tap Spam Protection

  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to enable call screening

iOS Setup

On iPhone, you'll need to:

  1. Allow SkipCalls to identify callers in Settings

  2. Go to Settings β†’ Phone β†’ Call Blocking & Identification

  3. Enable SkipCalls in the list

Android Setup

On Android, the app will request permission to screen calls. Once granted, spam protection works automatically.

Protection Modes

Choose how spam calls are handled:

Just Mark as Spam

Spam calls are identified and labeled, but you can still answer them if you choose. Missed spam calls are forwarded to your AI receptionist.

Best for: People who want to know when spam is calling but don't want to miss potentially legitimate calls.

Block & Send to Receptionist

Spam calls are blocked completely and automatically sent to your AI receptionist. You won't see or hear them at all.

Best for: People who receive a lot of spam and don't want any interruption from unwanted callers.

Updating the Spam Database (iOS)

On iPhone, you can manually refresh the spam database:

  1. Go to Settings β†’ Integrations β†’ Spam Protection

  2. Tap Update spam list

  3. Wait for the sync to complete

The app shows when the database was last updated and how many numbers are in the list.

What Happens to Spam Calls

Depending on your protection mode:

  • Marked spam: Call comes through but is labeled. If you don't answer, it goes to your AI receptionist

  • Blocked spam: Call is silently rejected and goes directly to your AI receptionist

Either way, you'll see a record of the spam call in your History tab, so you can review what was blocked.

Opening Phone Settings

If you need to adjust system-level call screening settings, tap Open Phone Settings at the bottom of the Spam Protection screen. This takes you directly to your phone's call settings.

Tips

  • Keep spam protection enabled for the best experience

  • Update the spam database periodically (iOS) to catch new spam numbers

  • Review blocked calls occasionally to ensure no legitimate calls were caught
